BOARD

The Board of Directors meets twice a month and with the Executive Committee reviews philosophy, policy, strategic planning, and the growth of the school.

The following three members serve on the Board of Directors of the school:

    • Alparslan Tansuğ, ENKA Schools Chair and Founder’s Representative
    • Dr. Esra Tara, Board Member
    • Onur Kaya, Board Member

 

The Board members serve as unpaid volunteers who are responsible to ENKA for the well-being of the school and for ensuring that the school’s mission is established and put into practice.

ADMINISTRATION

The Senior Leadership Team is represented by the Principals of Pre-School, Primary School, Middle School, and High School, and the Business Manager. They collaboratively work together to advance our school. Our Leadership Team promotes our school vision, supports initiatives, and addresses challenges to strengthen the ENKA family.

Ayten Yılmaz – Pre-School Principal

Ayten Yılmaz is the Principal of ENKA Pre-School. She graduated from Marmara University’s Faculty of Pre-School Education. She worked in Robert College and Kadıköy Zihinsel Engelliler Centre during her apprenticeship.

She began working at ENKA schools in 1996 as a homeroom teacher and served as a teacher and later as an Assistant Principal. She has been the Pre-School principal since 2004.

Ayten has been trained in many subjects such as IB, PYP, inquiry based learning, play based learning, and the Reggio Emilia approach. She has worked on the adaptation of Math Their Way and GEMS (Great Explorations in Math and Science) topics into the school curriculum. She has led workshops at various conferences on these topics. Ayten is a member of the Private Schools Foundation’s Pre-school Commission. She is married, has two children, and is a UNICEF volunteer. She enjoys kickboxing, theatre, and travelling.

Nilay Yıldırım – Primary School Principal

Nilay Yıldırım was born in 1981 in Istanbul.  She graduated from the Faculty of Education of Trakya University in 2004. Currently she is pursuing a master’s degree in “Educational Administration, Supervision and Planning. She has 15 years of teaching experience. She worked as a homeroom teacher for 12 years at ENKA Schools prior to becoming the school principal in 2018. During her teaching career she has focused on differentiated instruction and educational technologies. She holds many certificates in these areas. She has attended various IB PYP workshops both in Turkey and abroad. Additionally, she has presented multiple times at numerous events, including the GEMS (Great Explorations in Math and Science – an innovative science and mathematics education program developed by the Lawrence Hall of Science, the public science education center at the University of California at Berkeley) workshops and ENKA Schools’ annual Spring Teachers’ Conference. She is married and has one daughter. She loves travelling and reading.

Dr. Özlem Mecit – Middle School Principal

Dr. Özlem Mecit was born in 1977 Tarsus, Mersin. In 1999 she graduated from Middle East Technical University’s (METU) Faculty of Education with a bachelor’s degree in teaching Biology. In 2001 she earned her master’s degree in the Department of Secondary Science and Mathematics from the same faculty and worked there as a Research Assistant. She completed her doctorate in Fall 2006 from METU’s Faculty of Education.

Özlem Mecit served in the Adapazarı ENKA Schools since 2003, initially as the Assistant Principal, then as the Primary and Secondary School Principal between 2006 and 2013, and then as the Primary School Principal 2013-2018 before coming to Istanbul ENKA Schools where she has served as Middle School Principal since June 2018.

In 2014, she became an IBPYP Consultant for the International Baccalaureate Organization (IB).

In 2015, she earned the status of Apple Distinguished Educator.

She is married and has 1 child.

Dr. Selcen Özkaya Seçil – High School Principal

Selcen Özkaya Seçil was born in Eskişehir, Turkey and lived there until the university years. Then she graduated from Mathematics Department of Middle East Technical University, Ankara. She then worked in Faculty of Education as a research assistant and completed her PhD degree at the same university. Her PhD thesis was on assessment in education.

She then moved to Istanbul and worked in different private schools as a mathematics teacher, coordinator, and administrator. In her previous school, she worked as the Academic Assistant General Manager. She attended several trainings conducted by IB, CIS, TÖZOK and many other organizations, and also she is a certified IB MYP trainer.

Her interests are mainly teacher training and assessment. She is married with one child. She loves cinema, theather and travelling.
